Muscat, Oman Port
Muscat, Oman
Muscat, the capital of Oman, is an anonymous commercial port on the gulf, across from the Iranian coast. The city conserves a medieval atmosphere and boasts a temperate climate owing to the influence of the African monsoons.
Dubai, U.A.E. Port
Dubai, U.A.E.
Dubai, the most hospitable city in the country, also boasts the most exciting nightlife and the best reputation among the cities of the Gulf. It hosts golf and tennis tournaments as well as world-famous car races in the desert.
Suez Canal (Passage) Port
Suez Canal (Passage)
At it's opening in 1869, the Suez Canal was the first salt-water passage between the Mediterranean and Red Seas. Without it, a cargo ship sailing from Italy to Singapore would have to go around the southern tip of Africa, doubling the travel time and distance. The canal is 103 miles long and about 8% of the world's sea trade goes through it. Bordered by long lines of golden sand, the voyage down is both majestic and peaceful. The width of the canal is just over 300 yards across, which is just enough space for your ship to get you from one exciting destination to the next!
Aqaba-Jordan Port
Aqaba, Jordan's only seaport, boasts the Red Sea's cleanest beaches and coral reefs. The coral barrier of Aqaba is vitally important and hosts an incredible variety of fish and corals.
Katakolon, Greece Port
Katakolon, Greece
Small and picturesque, the port of Katakolon was built in the second half of the last century and is linked to nearby Olympia, one of the most important mythological sites of Ancient Greece.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Port
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
Every visitor to Rome knows there is no shortage of amazing sights to see. The Vatican's Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum with its lurid history and, of course, the Trevi Fountain where a tossed coin promises your return to the Eternal City. Take a walking tour of its many historical landmarks and enjoy the convivial sidewalk caf├ęs. There is no doubt you'll learn the meaning of la dolce vita (the sweet life) when you visit Rome.
Abu Dhabi, UAE Port
Abu Dhabi, UAE
A luxurious and elegant modern metropolis. At one time Abu Dhabi was a sombre village of fishermen and pearl production. Now it is the richest and politically most important city of the country's seven emirates.
Athens (Piraeus), Greece Port
Athens (Piraeus), Greece
Piraeus is Greece's third largest city in terms of population and its biggest port. It was first settled in the ages of Themistocles, when the Long Walls were built (478 BC), and the town was being laid out to the plans of the architect Hippodamus. It gained considerably in importance when Athens became a naval power. The ancient harbours of Piraeus were Zea and Munichia. Zea, now called Pasalimani, is one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean. Munichia, also known as Mikrolimano or Tourkolimano, is a pretty little harbour with yachts and fishing-boats and ringed with fish tavernas. Above Mikrolimano is the hill of Kastella, much mentioned in popular songs, with its traditional houses and offers a panoramic view. Above it is the Church of the Prophet Elijah and the Veakeio Theatre, well known for its summer performances, is nearby situated. The commercial harbour of Piraeus is one of the most important in the Mediterranean. The city itself with its suburbs is an industrial zone of particular importance for the Greek economy, but nevertheless its centre has broad streets, spacious squares, tree-lined avenues, and parks.
